Meeting the sculptor
Caroline CORBEAU
“Through a subtle interplay of cutting and welding, I create unique pieces of furniture in which I breathe a spirit into the material that manages to give it meaning and transcend it. Beyond functionalism, the desire to purify lines as much as possible and the vibrant power of steel, revealed by the moiré pattern of the metal, are part of my artistic adventure”.
Caroline Corbeau’s work can be divided into two phases:
-The first period was dedicated to cutting, folding and rolling metal sheets like the art of origami.
– The second period presents furniture conceived as a multiform formwork, whose defining lines are stripped of all ornamentation, contrasting with the coldness of the material, the furniture becomes a sinuous script made up of arabesques.
His style was both organic and geometric, and his creations were free of superfluity and fashion: simple and sober, they proclaimed a timelessness and a certain classicism.
